Brown Leather Aviator Jacket — Shearling Collar, Size 50 (M)
Brown Leather Aviator Jacket — Shearling Collar
A pilot-style jacket in genuine brown cowhide with a shearling collar, plaid lining and ribbed cuffs. The shape comes from wartime flight jackets, where every element existed for a reason: the collar turned up against cold at altitude, the ribbing sealed the wrists and waist against draught.
Eighty years later the details have not changed, because they were right the first time.

The shearling collar
Shearling is sheepskin with the wool left on. Turned up, it seals the neck; turned down, it frames the jacket. It insulates when damp, which wool does and synthetic pile does not — the reason flight crews wore it before synthetic insulation existed.
It is also the detail that separates an aviator jacket from a plain bomber. Without the collar, this is a brown leather jacket; with it, it is a specific thing with a specific history.
Ribbed cuffs and hem
The ribbing pulls the jacket close at the wrists and waist, so cold air does not travel up the sleeves or across the back. On a motorcycle or a bicycle that matters more than insulation — most of the cold comes from air moving through the jacket, not through the leather.
It also gives the silhouette its shape: wider at the chest, narrow at the waist, which is why the cut flatters most builds.
Plaid lining
Lined in plaid rather than plain polyester. It is the traditional lining for this jacket type and it shows every time you open the front — the kind of detail that only exists on jackets made by someone who cared about it.
Who buys this jacket
- Anyone who has wanted a flight jacket since seeing one in a film — the shape is instantly recognisable
- Riders — ribbed cuffs and hem block draught better than a straight-cut jacket
- Aviation enthusiasts — pilots, ex-service, anyone with a connection to flying
- Men who find modern jackets too plain — shearling and plaid are not subtle, and that is the point
- Anyone tired of black leather — brown ages into a warmer tone rather than staying uniform
As a gift
At this price it is bought for a milestone rather than an occasion: a significant birthday, a retirement, getting a pilot's licence, or a Christmas where one large gift replaces several small ones.
If you are buying for someone else, check their measurements against the table above — it is a single size and cannot be exchanged for another.
Other sizes and custom orders
This jacket is available in size 50 (M). For other sizes we make to measure — send us chest, waist, shoulder, sleeve and back length and we will quote.
Care
Store on a wide hanger away from direct heat. Wipe the leather with a soft dry cloth. Brush the shearling collar occasionally to keep the wool open rather than matted. Apply leather conditioner two or three times a year, avoiding the shearling.
Common questions
Is the collar real shearling? Yes — sheepskin with the wool left on, which insulates even when damp. It can be worn turned up against the cold or folded down.
How warm is this jacket? The shearling collar and ribbed cuffs and hem block draught at the neck, wrists and waist, which is where most cold enters. It suits autumn through winter in temperate climates, and layers over a jumper in colder conditions.
What is the difference between an aviator jacket and a bomber jacket? An aviator jacket has a shearling collar and derives from wartime flight jackets. A bomber is the same silhouette without the collar. Both use ribbed cuffs and hem.
What size is this jacket? Size 50, equivalent to a men's M, suited to a wearer around 72–80 kg. Compare the measurements above with a jacket you already own.
Can I ride in it? Yes. Genuine cowhide with reinforced stitching, and the ribbed cuffs and hem keep air out at speed. It does not include CE-certified armor.
How does brown leather age? It lightens at the elbows and shoulders where the leather flexes, developing a worn-in tone. This is normal to cowhide and why the jacket looks better after a season.
Can I order a different size? This jacket is available in size 50 (M). For other sizes we make to measure — message us with your measurements.
How do I care for the shearling? Brush it occasionally to keep the wool open. Avoid applying leather conditioner to the shearling itself.
