Brown leather with dark hardware
The default pairing for brown is brass — warm metal with warm leather, the traditional combination. Gunmetal does the opposite: a dark, cool buckle against warm brown, which reads as deliberate rather than conventional.
It also solves a practical problem. Brass belts have to agree with brass watch cases and gold rings; gunmetal is neutral enough to wear with steel, black or no watch at all.
Why texture matters on brown
Brown leather shows surface detail better than black, where texture tends to disappear into the dark tone. On this belt the worked finish stays visible as the leather ages and lightens at the fold, so the pattern becomes more pronounced rather than less.
Why full grain
Full grain is the outer layer of the hide with the grain intact. Corrected and bonded leather is sanded and coated, which is why it cracks at the fold within two years. Full grain darkens and softens instead, keeping its shape — and keeping the texture crisp.

Care
Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Apply leather conditioner two or three times a year, working it into the textured surface so the recesses do not dry out. Keep away from prolonged direct sun.
